For the student with challenging behavior, ensuring that his or her behavior away from school — and especially in the home environment — is managed effectively is crucial to his or her overall behavioral development and growth. Parents and caregivers can be active partners in behavior management and learning, and often need support on the way.

In this lunch-and-learn workshop opportunity, parents will learn how to teach and foster skills that improve communication, build social competence, and advance independence.  This session will provide direct and effective strategies parents and caregivers can to help their child at home and in the community.  When we break for lunch, parents can take part in focused Q&A discussion groups with the presenters.

Attendees at the workshop will learn how to:

  • Analyze the ABC’s of a child’s behavior
  • Identify the communicative function of some challenging behaviors
  • Break down complex tasks to systematically teach increased independence
  • Structure the home environment for success

  • MaryAnn Korth, MA, CCC-SLP
  • Janet Renda, MS, teacher, behavior specialist
  • Crystal Ellis, OTP
  • Michilina Scala, PT, DPT, PCS, c/NDT
