Every educator at Hawkswood demonstrates a deep commitment to the children and families we serve, and shares our belief in the inherent value of each child.
Our certified special education teachers serve as the instructional leaders in their classrooms. Para-professionals in each class enhance learning through individualized support. Both teachers and para-professionals are skilled in the use of differentiated instruction, which allows each student to find multiple points of entry into the curriculum.
Hawkswood School’s staff is fully certified for the positions they fill, and are “highly qualified” under the No Child Left Behind Act.
Each child’s team includes:
- Certified Special Education Teachers
- Behavior Specialists
- Speech-Language Specialists
- Physical Therapists
- Occupational Therapists
- School Social Workers
- Art and Music Teachers
- Adaptive Physical Education Teachers
- Structured Learning Coordinators and Job Coaches
- Technology Specialists
- Consultants and Specialists
Hawkswood’s team includes consulting pediatric specialists, neurologists, and other specialists. A consulting physician reviews braces and rehabilitation devices to ensure that they fit and operate properly. Because some of our students have digestive issues and/or difficulty with food and swallowing, our consulting nutritionist works with staff and families to help ensure safe eating and meal-time practices, and good nutrition.
